Liguria&nbsp;Liguria (Italian Riviera) is famous all over the world for the beauty of its beaches and for its extraordinary climate all year round.&nbsp;Liguria is a land of incredibly varied panoramas, full of hidden wonders that are very often not found in normal tourist guides, plus a few mountains as a backdrop to climb..... We will be cycling along parts of the coast line, plus venturing into some of the hills backing on to this coastline, spending much of our time in the wine region of Piedmont, Italy

Do you want to cycle on empty roads, through a forgotten part of Spain - Once a great medieval kingdom. Sometimes it will seem more like Arizona than Aragon. Often known as 'Espana Vacaaida' (Empty SPace), its a depopulated, rugged landscape away from the tourist areas.&nbsp; Once you leave the coastline behind, its a landscape of crusader castles and medieval villages that seem to cling to the rocky outcrops. Amazing geological formations abound, yet its one of the least visited parts of Spain ........ making it a cyclists open road. Wonderful.&nbsp;Staring in the Valencia Region, we quickly cycle into the southern part of Aragon, before turning back into Valencia.&nbsp;<ul> <li>MountainsThe region's interior is mountainous, especially in the north and west. The Altiplano de Requena-Utiel range is in the interior and averages about 750 meters in height. Its not as tough an area as the Picos, Pyrenees, Sistema or SIeera Nevada, but it will still offer us some great cycling.</li> <li>ValleysThe region has deep and steep valleys formed by major rivers. I suppose we might cycle up one or two of these......</li> <li>Other landscapesThe region also includes wetlands, beaches, pine and oak forests, juniper bushes, Mediterranean garrigue, palm plantations, orange orchards, citrus fruit plantations, vegetable gardens, and rice paddies.&nbsp;</li></ul>We will be trying to experience as much of the region as we can !

The Forgotten Spain (FULL)

Northern Portugal offers a cyclist's paradise, a region where every pedal stroke blends physical exertion with profound sensory rewards. Setting off from the historic city of&nbsp;Guimaraes, riders are immediately immersed in a landscape rich with granite architecture and lush green valleys.It's incredible as the route winds northward, ascending into the raw, untamed wilderness of the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/parque-nacional-da-peneda-geres">Peneda-Gerês</a>. Here, dramatic mountain passes are rewarded with breathtaking vistas of emerald peaks and cascading waterfalls, and the only sounds are often the whir of tyres and the distant chime of cowbells. It is wild and rugged, with granite peaks that are millions of years old, oak forests, green valleys, and scenic hiking trails, and wildlife, including the native, wild Garrano ponies, deer, and ibex.The hospitality is as warm as the climate, with opportunities to refuel on hearty local cuisine and Vinho Verde in tiny, forgotten villages, making the challenging climbs worth every moment for the sheer beauty and authentic culture encountered along the way.

We will start the tour by spending a couple of nights in Braga before cycling up into the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/parque-nacional-da-peneda-geres">Peneda-Gerês National Park</a>, and then on into the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reservabiosferageresxures.eu/en">Reserva de la Biosfera Transfronteriza Gerês-Xurés</a> spanning Spain and Portugal. We will then cycle down back to the Atlantic coast of Portugal to complete our tour of this magical area.

Starting just north of Madrid in the heart of the Sistema range, at the <a target='_blank' href="https://ciclolodge.com/en/">Ciclo Lodge</a>. A bike dedicated hotel on the edge of the Pinilla Reservoir, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. &nbsp;The tour in total is around 360 miles, and 35,000 ft of climbing.
 
The Sistema Mountains run from east to west roughly along the southern border of the Spanish community of Castilla y León continuing into Portugal.&nbsp;
 
We will be spending most of our time in the Sierra de Guadarrama region, and the eastern end of the Sierra de Gredos.
 
We will be crisscrossing this area, taking in the often quiet back roads, with some awesome climbs and descents, matched by the beautiful scenery. Plus we’ll be visiting the magnificent city of Avila.

After flying into Athens, you'll be transported to the beautiful island of Poros, in the Saronic Gulf of Greece. Your week will be spent cycling around the Peloponnese region of Greece.
 
You'll be exploring some of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, as we travel in time, to the Late Bronze Age cities , famous medieval castle towns and ancient theatres, which still seem to resound with the applause of the spectators.
 
We follow the road of Hercules and of wine, in ancient vineyards and arrive at the Palace of the legendary King Agamemnon. We live the healing experience of Epidaurus that combined medicine, religious ceremonies, sports and drama – a complete, holistichealing the body, mind and soul.&nbsp;
 
All this while cycling around 300 miles, averaging approximately 50 miles a day, so giving you plenty of time to enjoy the culture and experience of Greece.&nbsp;

Starting off from the small island of Poros, we explore this island on the first day, and its neighbouring volcano of Methana. We will explore a stunning volcanic landscape with dense vegetation, coastal villages and diverse flora and fauna.
 
Leaving Poros we spend a day cycling up to the Ancient Theater of Epidavros &nbsp;, located on the southeast end of the sanctuary dedicated to the ancient Greek God of medicine, Asclepius.&nbsp;
Constructed in late 4th century BC,it is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics.Because of its exceptional architecture and aesthetics, the theatre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 along with the Temple of Asclepius.
 
Then on to Ancient Nemea which was once known as Heraklion because it was in these places that Hercules performed the first of his 12 labours, killing the lion that terrorised the countryside of Nemea. After his accomplishment, he established the Nemean Games, almost equally important as the Olympic Games, that took place in Ancient Olympia.&nbsp;
We will complete the experience in authentic style, in one of the local wineries of the Nemea region and try the ancient, famous wines of the region – a gift of the god Dionysus to the city of Nemea.&nbsp;
 
Next stop is another emblematic cultural monument of the Peloponnese: the ancient city of the "Polygold" Mycenae of the Late Bronze Age (1250 BC), where is the palace of King Agamemnon, the hero of the Trojan War.&nbsp;
Entering the Mycenae city through the Lions' Gate, we'll be amazed by the size of the Cyclopean Walls, so named because only the one-eyed giants of Greek mythology could have built them. The most famous monument here is the tomb of Clytemnestra, one of the most impressive vaulted tombs of Mycenae.
 
Finally we make our way further north to Nafplio. One of the most beautiful cities not only on Argolida region, but also of the whole of Greece, the city of Nafplion – first capital of the newly established Greek state from 1823 to 1834 – was built according to mythology, by Nafplion, son of Poseidon and Danaida Animoni. Ancient walls, mediaeval castles, monuments, statues, Ottoman fountains, Venetian and neoclassical buildings – all charming historical as well as architectural jewels – await the visitor with a majestic welcome.&nbsp;
 
In between all these amazing cultural delights there will be days of wonderful cycling, through the Peloponnese countryside. Olive groves, vineyards and superb scenery. Warm sunny days.&nbsp;
